anyone with basic photo skills interested in mastering digital
imaging. Photoshop CS2 is the focus of the weekend. Additionally,
we will look over Color sync, Basic Adjustments, Layers and Actions
. You will
have accessprinters. Perfecting large format printing is the weekend goal.
I try to stress digital "Workflow" and each computer

Plug-Ins and Portfolio and CameraBits'
Photo Mechanic. Software discounts are available to students
taking this class. This year, we will also be taking a looking
at web based image database systems which I would venture to say
are going to make current portfolio software obsolete. I will
be also reviewing InDesign, GoLive, InDesign and Dreamweaver for
those of you interested in designing your own sites and books
****Warning:
this is another weekend and if there's enough demand for it, I
will make up a couple of weekend courses for advanced Photoshop
students interested in taking it to the web and print.
We
will also photograph Washington's best scenics at dawn and dusk
and work on Photoshop, Databasing and Digital Workflow during
the harsh daylight hours. Because these are small groups, I can

Lectures
"Transitioning to the Digital Studio"
There is only one reason to invest in a digital studio and that is additional profit. With a simple digital imaging setup, you can offer additional services, expect new clientele, increased markup and gross revenue. Film and digital are going to co-exist for a long time and your digital studio should be capable of increasing your profit in both media. It should also stretch your advertising budget through customized mailings, cards and promotions. Finally, you should be selling your images for stock through your website and using online printing houses for highly profitable large printing jobs.
A firm believer in "digital profitability," Stephen will do a financial analysis of the digital studio and discuss the profit in digital imaging for catalog, corporate, advertising, editorial and wedding photographers. Each new piece of equipment should have the potential to make your photography and related services more valuable to existing and potential clients. And each photographer should customize the studio to fit their business needs.
This seminar will cover a variety of digital setups from a simple one computer setup to a full bore digital studio using digital cameras and a network. It will also cover simple tips like using inexpensive digital prosumer cameras instead of Polaroids saving you countless
thousands per year.
Software, hardware, and peripherals will be also be examined both for their usefulness and markup potential. In the last year, fast computers and related digital photographic accessories have reached price points which make the digital studio a financial "no brainer" and technically speaking, a couple of days work.
In short, this seminar is for those looking to satisfy themselves that they are making an investment in digital as opposed to buying simply to have the "latest thing." |
"Databasing for Studio and Web Architecture"
As you get into digital imaging, software packages and workflow issues can make the organization of your images more coherent, increasing their resale value and saving you countless hours at the lightbox.
In this seminar, Stephen will discuss issues such as workflow, storage systems and creating a web based database of images for increased sales. The ins and outs of "online stores" will also be discussed. Software packages like Filemaker, Extensis Portfolio, and Cumulus will
be demonstrated and discussed and he will go through the process of preparing your images so they can be loaded to the web.
Finally, he will cover copyrighting your images using these programs. Online storage systems and copyrighting your work digitally through the Library of
Congress will complete this discussion. |
